Reuters Photo Shows Bessent Considering $5 Billion to $10 Billion Japanese Yen Purchase (imported from Binance News)

A Reuters photo taken at a Cabinet meeting at Camp David on July 31 showed a note on U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent’s notepad listing a to-do item that appeared to consider a U.S. purchase of $5 billion to $10 billion worth of Japanese yen, according to Jiemian News. The report said the U.S. Treasury Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether it had intervened to support the yen.
Earlier that day, people familiar with the matter told media that the U.S. Treasury, through the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, had informed several banks it could intervene in the yen market later that day. Japan’s government has recently stepped in to support the yen, and Japanese media reported that the currency saw repeated bursts of buying from the evening of July 31 into early August 1, briefly strengthening to the 157-yen-per-dollar area, its highest level in about two and a half months. The U.S. Treasury last supported the yen in 2011, when it joined other Group of Seven members in coordinated intervention after Japan’s major earthquake and tsunami.

Strategy’s Michael Saylor Says Cash and Bitcoin Could Coexist in Future Capital Mix (imported from Binance News)

Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor said on the company’s second-quarter earnings call that the firm may adopt a capital strategy combining cash and BTC in the future. He said that the best way to buy the most Bitcoin may not be to buy the most Bitcoin immediately. According to Odaily, TD Cowen and Benchmark both maintained buy ratings on Strategy after the call.
The two firms said management’s main goal is now to bring the STRC preferred stock price back near par so it can resume functioning as a financing tool. TD Cowen analyst Lance Vitanza said the most important takeaway from the call was management’s focus on STRC. Benchmark analyst Mark Palmer said Saylor and his team spent most of the 90-minute call focused on restoring STRC to the $99 to $100 range so it can again serve as the company’s primary engine for raising funds to buy Bitcoin.
